At a recent AIMG (AI Marketers Guild) marketing event, I had the pleasure of connecting with AI marketers who are enthusiastic about the impact of AI on our profession. More importantly, these AI marketers are actively embracing this change.
I gained valuable insights from them and also had the opportunity to share some of my own. For this talk, I chose to focus on some lesser-known techniques.
I also considered that not every organization is prepared to fully adopt AI.
1. Conversations with Customer (via Avatars)

- What is it? Creating an environment where AI marketers can have real-time conversations with key customers at any moment.
- Why it Works: Direct access to consumers isn’t always possible and can be costly when it is. AI can reduce participant bias, which occurs when an individual in a research study behaves in a way they think aligns with the researcher’s expectations.
- Example Uses:
- Test new product concepts
- Get feedback on marketing campaigns
- Understand customer pain points
- How to do it:
- Use an AI-powered chatbot platform, such as Botsonic or CustomGPT.ai.
- Train the avatar on a dataset of customer conversations, social media posts, or other data sources.
- AI marketers can now chat away with their customers any time day or night.
2. Using Image Generation to Brief Creatives

- What is it? Producing images/videos to assist in briefing creative teams without the need for lengthy or complex written briefs. It’s a tool AI marketers are increasingly using.
- Why it Works: Creative briefs can be difficult to write and understand. AI can help by generating images or videos that illustrate the key points of the brief.
- Example Uses:
- Create a mood board for a new marketing campaign
- Show the creative team what a new product looks like
- Explain a complex concept in a visual way
- How to do it:
- Use an AI image generation tool, such as Midjourney, DALL-E 2, or DreamStudio.
- Be sure to provide the tool with clear instructions on what you want it to create.
- AI marketers can now drop the images to a brief or any other related materials.
3. Generate Customer Journeys

- What is it? AI marketers can quickly and easily craft customer journeys or flows using AI.
- Why it Works: Customer journeys can be complex and time-consuming to create manually. AI can automate the process, saving AI marketers time and effort.
- Example Uses:
- Create a new customer onboarding journey
- Improve the customer experience for existing customers
- Test different customer journeys to see what works best
- How to do it:
- Set up CHATGPT and the Show Me and Decision Tree plugins. Create an OpenAI ChatGPT account and subscribe to the ChatGPT Plus plan. Then, install the Show Me and Decision Tree plugins.
- Define your customer journey. What are the different stages of your customer journey? What are the touchpoints at each stage? What are the goals of each stage?
- Gather data on your customers. What data do you have about your customers? What data do you need?
- Use CHATGPT to generate customer journey paths. Use the Show Me plugin to visualize your customer journey, and the Decision Tree plugin to generate a decision tree that shows the different paths that customers can take through the journey.
4. Roleplay Crisis Scenarios

- What is it? AI marketers can utilize a chatbot to simulate different crisis scenarios, ensuring they’re well-prepared to respond (or as well-prepared as one can ever be).
- Why it Works: Crisis scenarios can be challenging to anticipate. AI helps AI marketers by simulating different scenarios, allowing for better preparation.
- Example Uses:
- Prepare for a product recall
- Handle a social media crisis
- Respond to a natural disaster
- How to do it:
- Use an AI-powered chatbot platform, such as Botsonic or CustomGPT.ai.
- Train the chatbot on your brand, its consumers, and other related information.
- AI marketers can use the chatbot to practice responses to different crisis situations.
In the ever-evolving landscape of marketing, it’s clear that AI is not just a fleeting trend but a transformative force. As AI marketers, staying updated with the latest tools and techniques is crucial to ensure we remain at the forefront of this change.
